Adoption Fair Saturday, March 6th in Sonoma! Come see us for a small animal adoption event on Saturday, March 6th at the Sonoma Pet Cener in Sonoma! We will be showing adoptable animals from 12:00 to 4:00. We will have adoptable bunnies, chinchillas, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters and mice. For more information, please visit Our Upcoming Events Oh Baby! Lots of Baby Rats & Mice!
There are also many young adults from this rescue that are getting in a little bit of time to be socialized before they go up for adoption. The adults are curious and very interested in visiting with people, but are still getting used to being caught and held. If you are interested in fostering a young adult rat to help them get more acclimated to people, or you are interested in adopting a shy young adult with a lot of promise, please contact us! We would like to send out a special thanks to Joe & Wendy's Reptile Rescue in Vallejo, who originally had a huge number of rats and mice left at their rescue by someone who thought they would become reptile food. Joe & Wendy wanted to give all of these little guys a shot at being adopted and have been working to adopt out rats and find rescues who have space to take the remaining rodents, and are currently fostering 18 remaining young adults while we seek foster space or placement for them. Moving Update for North Star Rescue - January 2010 In the Winter of 2009, we received word that the property we rented for our rescue (and also home to two of our directors) would be entering foreclosure due to our landlord's financial difficulties. While we had originally held hopes that the property would be secured by a new landlord who was interested in keeping us and the rescue's space as tenants, the sale fell through and our rescue as well as two families in another home on the property were forced to relocate at the end of December. Through the last several months we have had to close intake at the rescue and focus on the placement of our current foster animals into new homes. While this is a difficult time for the two of us (Lauren & Zack) who run a greater portion of the foster program, there is a fantastic light at the end of the tunnel for us. We are currently in the process of purchasing a house that will allow us to set up a more permanent foster facility for our rescue rodents, and we're currently hoping to be set up and re-established in a new location by the Summer of 2010. While we will likely be only handling a very limited amount of rescue animals, we have decided to take advantage of this down-time by strengthening the administrative and educational programs and publications that the rescue offers to the public. In order to make this all happen, we are temporarily suspending private adoption appointments in the North Bay Area, and highly encourage anyone interested in adopting a rodent to contact us by e-mail for alternative adoption locations or upcoming events. We will continue to host our First Saturday of the Month adoption fair at the Sonoma Pet Center in Sonoma, and will continue to offer adoptable animals from our rescue through Andy's Pet Shop in San Jose. Our Danville adoption outpost will also remain open for private adoption appointments, and we are working this year to start up additional monthly adoption fairs in other parts of the Bay Area. Please note that during this time, we cannot accept owner surrenders of animals in to the rescue. We would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who has pitched in to make this an easy transition for our rescue animals. There have been many wonderful people who volunteered time to foster additional animals, work with special needs animals, pack and transport equipment, meet adopters and generally make life a lot easier for us!
