If you are an animal welfare agency, either an animal rescue group or a shelter that would like to put rats up for adoption through your own program, we can use your help in taking in smaller numbers of the rats from this rescue to place with your own adopters.
Information for Shelters & Rescues
If your shelter can assist with the placement of these rats, please have your rescue coordinator send an e-mail to lauren@northstarrescue.org with the following information:
1. Number of rats you can accept
2. Preferred gender of the rats, and if they need to be spayed/neutered before you can take them in.
3. Any restrictions you have based on age, health or socialization status
4. The name of your shelter and the primary contact there.
5. The city and state of your shelter
6. If you are able to transport the rats from San Jose, CA to your shelter or if transportation needs to be arranged for you.
Requirements for Shelters & Rescues Taking Rats for Placement
1. Rescues and shelters taking in rats to place with their own agencies must coordinate this with a director from North Star Rescue. Please be sure that you communicate directly with us, as we need to keep strict records of where each rat is going.
2. Rescues and shelters must agree to take rats on a no-kill basis. This means that you agree to keep the rats up for adoption until they are placed into homes, and that any rats euthanized would only be put down for medical needs when it is the most humane option for the rat.
3. Rescues and shelters must be either established Humane Societies, Animal Control Agencies, or 501(c)3 Non-Profit Rescue groups. Rats will not be given to individuals for placement to ensure that each rat is cared for humanely until they are adopted out into permanent homes.
